The Deans Repair Café
Saturday morning 31st January 2026, 10:30h-13:00h, venue to be confirmed. Bring along your small electricals, things that need glueing or some TLC, clothes and materials that need stitching. Our team of volunteers will be ready! Local energy advisers will also be there to discuss how you can lower your bills. Please come and catch us there if you have any BHCC-related issues you’d like to discuss.
Toilets in Saltdean’s Oval Park
A big shout-out to Saltdean resident James Lawrence whose company United Dry Lining recently donated ÂŁ1000 to Saltdean Swim and Surf Club, and ÂŁ1500 to Saltdean Food Bank and Saltdean Community Association for its spruce up Longridge Avenue project.
In addition, one of James’ team is currently working for free on the crumbling plaster inside the toilet block in Saltdean Oval Park. Sadly BHCC doesn’t have the money to do this, so we remain very grateful and pleased with the complete refurb of the toilet blocks on the undercliff at both Saltdean and Ovingdean, and on Park Road in Rottingdean (part funded by Rottingdean Parish Council).
Saltdean’s number one volunteer David Wilson will be repainting the walls once they are dry as well as continuing to open them every day before 8am and close at 6pm Fri, Sat and Sunday evenings. Otherwise they’d open later (10am) and close earlier (4pm) when people are already/still out and about.
Saltdean Food Bank
Supplies are quite low at the moment so if you can spare anything please then it will go to grateful homes. Most people who use the food bank are working zero hours, minimum wage jobs with high rents. We always need pasta, rice, tins of tuna fish, tomatoes, veg, soup, breakfast cereals, UHT milk and biscuits.

Directions
From Brighton take the A259 towards Newhaven. Bus services 12, 12A, 12X, 13X, 14, 27, and 47 come in from Brighton and Eastbourne.
In Rottingdean the car parking area is just north of the A259, opposite the White Horses Hotel which overlooks the beach. In Saltdean the car parking area is behind the Lido, also just north of the A259.
The Whitecliffs Cafe overlooks Saltdean beach and serves yummy food and drinks.
Toilets are available halfway up the cliff ramp on Saltdean Beach, not in the cafe.
The Undercliff walk from Saltdean to Brighton is a nice walk in summer.
With a little luck you get soaked by a wave.
